Boycott Taco Bell & KFC: Demand an End to Deforestation in Indonesia

Taco Bell Rainforest

Environmental organizations such as Greenpeace recently began to put pressure on YUM!Brands, parent company of many large fast food restaurants, due to the immense damage they are doing to tropical rainforests. YUM! Owns chains including Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, A&W and Long John Silvers and has over 38,000 locations across the globe.

Other large fast food, including Burger King and McDonald’s, companies have worked over the past decade to become more socially responsible by decreasing their dependence on companies that engage in practices which destroy the rainforest (such as palm oil plantations and logging companies).

According to Greenpeace, 40% of the rainforests in Indonesia have been logged in the past 50 years, destroying the natural habitat for orangutans, elephants, tigers, leopard and many more natives. The Indonesian government expects another 50% decrease in rainforests size over the next 20 years (yikes!). Deforestation also contributes to the growth of global warming In addition to harming the home to many animals and plant species. It allows naturally occurring CO2 emissions to escape into the atmosphere, when it would usually be contained by the ecosystem.

Take Action: Use this letter drafted by Greenpeace requesting that they strop using products derived from deforested rainforests and boycott the chains.
