Green Restaurant Spotlight: Dorado Tacos & Cemitas, Brookline, MA

Dorado Tacos and Cemitas.Yesterday, my husband and I were walking around Coolidge Corner in Brookline (outside of Boston) trying to find a place to grab an inexpensive and quick lunch.  We noticed a place we hadn't noticed before, called Dorado Tacos and Cemitas. The menu consisted mostly of cemitas and tacos, including fish tacos, and everything was really inexpensive.  The tacos were all under $3, and for $5.99 you can get two tacos, rice, beans, and jalapenos.

While we waited for our order, I noticed a sign that said:  "WAYS WE'RE BEING GREEN."  When I read the list of how they're being green, I was immediately impressed. They blow a lot of other green restaurants out of the water with their eco-friendly practices!

1)  All of their packaging is made with renewable sources and biodegradable materials, including compostable corn cups

2)  Compostables are brought to local farms and are later used as fertilizer.

3)  The tables are made with reclaimed wood from the previous tenant's walk-in cooler.  (I thought that tidbit was particularly cool!)

4)  The floors are made with 42% post consumer recyclable material.

5)  They use energy-saving lighting.

6)  Their hand towels and toilet paper in the bathroom are made from post-consumer chlorine-free materials.

7)  The faucets and toilets are water-saving and low-flow.

8)  All their food is fresh.  No cans, no packaging.  When we were eating, I kind of peeked back into the kitchen, and I noticed no cans or any packaged food at all, which is very rare!

9)  Their cleaning stuff is all non-toxic and eco-friendly.

Oh, and their tacos were incredibly delicious.  I got a fish taco and a chicken taco, and my husband got a swordfish taco and a steak taco.  He approved of his chow, and he's from Southern California and very picky when it comes to Mexican food!

We left totally stuffed and very happy to have supported a local restaurant that does as much for the environment as they can.
