Greensoul Ethical Shoes

They always say that nothing boosts innovation and entrepreneurship quite like a down economy. NPR news reported this morning on 2 wall street bankers who were laid off from Bear Stearns and J.P. Morgan Chase last year. Instead of cycling back into the world of banking, these friends decided to take action by creating an eco-friendly business.

Greensoul Shoes (http://greensoulshoes.wordpress.com/) has designed a sandal made from 100% recycled tires. Their mission is to provide 1 shoe-less child in a developing country with a pair of shoes for every pair that is sold. The company will further provide decent wages to workers in countries such as Cambodia, the Philippines, and Peru, while clearing their landfills of mounds of old tires.

The company is still in its infancy, and the shoes have not yet been produced (however, Greensoul is taking pre-orders). This environmentally forward and community orientated business is definitely Keen and Green. I look forward to following their progress over the next year.

Very cool!  Those sandals

Very cool!  Those sandals look like they could even support my wide flat feet.
