Help Save Public Broadcasting!
Sarah Palin and other right-wingers have been exploiting the Juan Williams story as an excuse to convince Congress to defund NPR. Conservatives have wanted to defund public broadcasting for a long time. This isn't a new issue at all, sadly -- in fact, none other than Mister Rogers stood before the Senate in 1969 to defend public broadcasting.
NPR, PBS, PRI, and Pacifica have always been big supporters of environmental causes. While most other mainstream news stations don't cover a whole lot of environmental stories, public broadcasting does.
- PBS has many programs about the environment. To name a few, Green Builders highlights green building pioneers, Go Greener has tips about how to live green, and Journey to Planet Earth covers environmental challenges throughout the world.
- PBS Kids shows often promote the environment. They even have this cute little clip that they show where a kid says, "By saving two cans, you're saving toucans!" Their website has all sorts of environmental games to play.
- PRI and NPR frequently have great stories about the environment, such as "The Vertical Farm" segment I heard on The Diane Rehm Show a few weeks ago.
Visit Change.org and sign their petition to help save NPR. We need more media outlets that offer frequent stories about the environment. (And all of the great other programs that public broadcasting airs!)
