Home Farming Day is April 12

home farming dayTriscuit (yes, those yummy little crackers!) has proclaimed Tuesday, April 12, 2011 Home Farming Day, with events in NYC, LA, and Tampa.

Triscuit launched a new social network, Home Farming, helping people start their own home farm.  Members can share photos, receive badges a la FourSquare, and ask and answer questions about growing your own food.  The site also has lots of tips for growing veggies in your backyard and even recipes, too!

There's also a sweepstakes to win $1000 towards your farm.

In addition to launching the Home Farming website, to celebrate Home Farming Day, Triscuit is:

  • Working with Urban Farming, a non-profit orginzation devoting to growing food on unused land and plant 65 community-based farms around the country.
  • Doubling the number of Triscuit boxes with seed cards for planting basil and dill.

Even if you don't live in a city with Home Farming Day events, consider celebrating it on your own.   Start planning out your garden if you live somewhere that you can't garden year-round.   Go to your local nursery and buy some seeds (or order some online), and begin your seedlings inside.
