Are Markers Recyclable?
No, unfortunately you CANNOT recycle markers. A growing number of more eco-friendly pens and markers are on the market (such as Papermate's Biodegradeable Pens), but most dead markers end up sitting in landfills across the country.
So what CAN you do with your dried out markers? Here are a few ideas:
- Extend the lifespan of your markers with rubbing alcohol or rubber cement thinner. Learn how here.
- Ball point pens can be refilled with ink jet ink.
- Make picture frames by using a hot glue gun.
- Use dried up markers as paint brushes for water colors.
Most importantly, make sure to teach your kids to close their markers when not in use to keep them working as long as possible. In the mean time, join the kids from Sun Valley Elementary (below) in letting Crayola know they need to start a recycling program for their markers.
