Is Styrofoam Recyclable?

Can you recycle styrofoam,

Yes, contrary to popular belief, Styrofoam IS recyclable, just not through most curbside programs.

It is more difficult to recycle than other plastics (such as #2 and #3) and is not always accepted by curbside municiple programs. Visit Earth911.org/recycling to find out if your local recycling program accepts styrofoam or to find a local drop off center.

Styrofoam is form of plastic #6, or polystyrene. Most people are familiar with disposable food service items, such as plates, bowls, and cups, made from Styrofoam. Polystyrene can also be found in packing peanuts and other forms of packaging.   Reusing styrofoam packing peanuts is safe and highly recommended.
