CleanTech/GreenTech events in Silicon Valley - January 2010

Clean technology (CleanTech) has become a prominent sector in many countries; some call this emerging sector a revolution. However what, in point of fact, is done? Where are we headed, where are we behind and what are the next steps? How does Information Technology (IT) leverage clean tech innovations?

When it comes to green technology, is the US moving forward fast enough to make a difference globally?

Check the following events:

1. Silicon Valley Energy Storage Symposium and Technology Showcase

The symposium will bring together key public officials, private sector, academia and research participants – to engage in a discussion of the future of energy storage. The event presents an opportunity for small and big businesses and researchers to showcase their work in the energy storage space. The event is presented by Joint Venture - Silicon Valley Network, an organization that provides analysis and action on issues affecting Silicon Valley’s economy and quality of life. The organization brings together established and emerging leaders - from business, government, academia, labor and the broader community - to spotlight issues and work toward innovative solutions.

The program will feature a keynote address by Brad Roberts, Power Quality Systems Director for S & C Electric Company and Executive Director of the Electricity Storage Association (ESA). The panel will include several managers and leaders.

Join Peter Tertzakian, best selling author of A Thousand Barrels a Second and The End of Energy Obesity, and industry experts as they decipher the myths and realities of today’s headlines about the energy industry. With a reported $3.4 billion in smart grid project grants to help prime the pump, the emergence of the” smart grid” is being touted as capable of producing huge benefits, from distributed energy generation from a variety of sources to energy consumption management to maximize efficiency, all while reducing costs. Yet few fully understand the true meaning of how information technology can be integrated in to power generation and distribution, and how it will deliver energy more efficiently.

Following the presentation, a discussion panel will explore the future of information technology in the clean tech revolution.

Presented by the Silicon Valley Association of Startup Entrepreneurs (SVASE) and the German American Business Association (GABA).
